Helsinki: Ice blocks piled up on the southern shore of Harakka island near Kaivopuisto park. The new month began with my first visit to Harakka this winter - in sunny, but freezing weather.

The boldness and the delicacy of the ice in this picture is amazing. Its pictures like these that make me home-sick for my second home: Finland.

My first visit to Finland would have been 10 years ago this coming August, and I instantly fell in love with what I saw. Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, and southern Wisconsin cannot compare.

To all my friends and "family" in Finland, I really would love to come back and visit again. To all my friends and family here in the States, you should all get a chance to go and visit!
