Helsinki: The full moon rises above the South Harbour in a view from the shore of the Market Square. I've captured the same islands in these pictures: 1234. See also: webcam view.

Evi / Greece

Another beautiful photo of yours...
But comparing to the same photos taken before, seems like it is a quite different landscape this one...Maybe because this one was taken night and without any fog around, i wonder...
And the full moon with this light pink veil looks inspiratory..
And something else...
Good Luck to your country tomorrow night in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Love,
Evi !

Evi, thank you! The idea of the linked photos was just to show you how different the same landscape looks at various times of the year and day.

Last year I was watching the Eurovision Song Contest in Greece, on the island of Crete. You've probably seen my pictures from there? It's really interesting to see how Lordi will make it tomorrow! :) Good luck to Greece, too!

Great photo!!
I'm kind a fan of yours! Your pics are beautifull man! Great work.
btw, I love Finland, especcialy northern Finland (Lappland), and I would love to visit Finland some day too.
Are there any pics of that region (northern part)??

Evi / Greece

Yes,i've seen some photos from Crete...
Greece has so many different places to see..Combines rocky mountains, sunshine, sea, hundreds of beautiful islands, hot - cold springs, everything ...And most of all you will be sure that you'll have excellent weather fron April till mid October..
For example today we have 30 degrees (noon)in Athens.
I recomend you some islands ( i prefer the not too much crowed ones and not in August), in case you want to visit us again sometime:
Paxi islands (near Corfu), Santorini island (Cyclades), Lesbos island (North Cyclades), Astypalaia & Symi Islands from dodecanese...And so many others...But that's a good start!
Thanks for answering me :-)
Evi.

Marko, thanks! I'm afraid these are my only pictures taken in the province of Lapland, but I have some photos from Kuusamo, which is almost Lapland. :) I hope I'll have some more photos from Lapland in the future...

Gré

I have no words for it. The comments this time said it all. I don't know what to say more.
Congratulations with the winning of the eurovision contest. I did not saw it but i heard it on the news. Lordi, its great fun. Never thought they would win.

Gré, thank you! I believe not so many people thought Lordi could actually win. :)

It was great show last night (Eurovision), and I'm glad that Finland took first place!!! Lordi are so crazy and original! I knew it from the very begging, that they are going to take 1st plase, or at least 5th! Cheers m8!

@Eve
Greece is very beutifull country too! I've been there few times and I was fascinated with Olympus (especcialy with Zeus's bath :) )
I've visited Thasos (very nice island), Paralie, Katherini, Thessaloniki (very similiar with my city, city of Novi Sad) and Athents too!

Niklas, congratulations to Finland for winning the 51th Eurovision Song Contest...Yes i could not imagine that Lordi would win..If i am not wrong, this was the 1th win of Finland? I hope you liked the show yesterday.
Niklas a correction in English:In English is written Astypalea and not Astypalaia, sorry...Hope you find the chance to spend your holidays in Greece sometime again in the future. What style of vacation do you prefer, really ?

@Marko Dojcinovic
I live in some suburb near Athens.

Cynthia

Congratulations to Finland! Lordi rock(s). How do you make a rocking smiley?! ;) =) I read on "Virtual Finland" that the lead singer is from Lapland; they must be pretty happy up there too... Before the Eurovision Song Contest, how famous was Lordi in Finland?

21.05.2006 (12:51)

Anna

Wow, Finland did it! Congratulations to all Finns and to you, Niklas, too. Personally I voted for Finland, and I'm extremely happy that the next contest will be held in my favourite city - Helsinki.

Many thanks to all of you for your congratulations!! The show really was unforgettable, since Finland has never won before, and not even been close to victory. (Best result: 6th place in 1973.) For several years it's been considered a joke to say that Finland will win the Eurovision Song Contest. There's actually a common Finnish weather-related joke about it. Look for the joke named "Finnish weather explained" and especially note the last few lines (-300°C / -508°F). Hell has frozen! ;)

Evi, I prefer a vacation with wonderful landscapes, not crowded places, and not too hot. :)

Cynthia, I had never heard of Lordi before he was chosen to represent Finland.

Anna, please tell me where you live! Ukraine?

Evi / Greece

The link was very funny ....
"-30°C / -22°F
People in Greece die from the cold and disappear from the face of the earth.
The Finns start drying their laundry indoors."
HA HA HA :p
So,you have -300C, Niklas!

21.05.2006 (16:51)

Niklas Sjöblom

Brrr. ;)

21.05.2006 (16:58)

Anna

Yes, Niklas, I live in Ukraine, and I'm in love with Finland and especially Helsinki. I'm interested in everything connected to Finland and its capital. It's my dream to come to Helsinki one day and I believe it will come true. And as I'm a metal-fan and Lordi is from Finland, I simply couldn't help voting for them.

@ Anna
Nightwish is my favourite band! HIM is great too ( He is going to preform on EXIT Festival this year in Novi Sad).

@Niklas
Those jokes are great, LOL! Few of them are hard to understand, but others are funny, especcialy "Finnish weather explained"!

22.05.2006 (02:06)

HT

It seems to be really true!

This picture was taken after Lordi practiced their show for the song contest.

Sorry for the off-topic...

Since I'm writing here, a short comment: I'd like to see pictures with more people. Just ordinary life from the streets of Helsinki. I love the pictures at Stadin taivaan alla. Your pictures are very nice too, thanks for them, but more streetlife, please!
