Helsinki: A broken-winged crow under a maple in the garden of the National Museum of Finland. Four days later the bird was still in the vicinity, seeming to be in a little better condition.

Isn't there an ambulance for animals that one can call once seeing poor birds like this? Quite cruel to just take a picture and walk away without helping the poor crow. If a seagull would have seen this, he would for sure have eaten the wounded crow.

I don't think the crow was wounded bad enough to need some help. It looked like some of its wing feathers were broken, but otherwise the bird seemed healthy to me. It walked around on quite a large area, and I was happy to find it in good condition four days later. Now a week has passed since then, so perhaps someone should go and check the situation again?

A few weeks ago my daughter saved a little duck who was hit by a boat. The animal-ambulance won´t come for wounded birds anymore. You have to bring them yourself, so she went on her bike to the birds-shelter a few miles outside our town. A good deed! This week our cat catched a little bird in our garden. We tryded to save the little bird but our cat wood not let him loose. Not for catmilk or candy (sometimes that works)The bird was already dead, so we send him (the cat and his prey) away. Sometimes its better not to interfere with the nature. Some you win, some you loose!
This little crow looks capable enough to suvive I think!

Gré, thanks for the stories and the comfort. Perhaps I'm not a very cruel and evil person, after all. (?) :) Yesterday I passed the place where I saw the crow last week and the week before that. I didn't see the bird at a quick glance, so let's hope that it has spread its wings and flown away.

To be honest, Nik, I shouldn't worry too much about crows. They can be particularly vicious towards the young of other birds. Pretty-looking little thing anyway!
