Þingvellir, Iceland: Almannagjá, a canyon traversing Þingvellir National Park, and the biggest lake of Iceland, Þingvallavatn. The parliament of Iceland, one of the oldest parliamentary institutions in the world, was founded here in 930. Also, at this historical place, the independence of the Republic of Iceland was proclaimed in 1944. The national park is located in an active tectonic and volcanic area in the southwestern part of Iceland. It's a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
