Helsinki: Evening view from Sofiankatu street towards the Lutheran Cathedral.

Sofiankatu is among the most beautiful streets of Helsinki. This shot towards the cathedral always results in a great picture. The focus on the lamp at the front rather than on the cathedral (of which only a part is on the picture) or on the street itself (which is also beautiful) gives this picture an additional value. It focusses on a detail that not many tourists are aware of. Yet, I wonder, Niklas, why did you choose this specific detail - the lamp - rather than anything else? And, secondly, why did you choose such a large depth of field? With an unsharp cathedral, the picture may have been even more exciting.

Wessel, thanks for your feedback. I tried different shooting angles and focus distances, but I was always disappointed with something. My intention was to take a picture of the old gas lamp, but unfortunately there wasn't any gas burning in it, so instead I chose another lamp. I tried focusing separately on the lamp and the church (with the other subject a little blurry), but I didn't like either version. In that sense the large depth of field was something of a compromise, but I'm not at all sure I like it.

Wonderful shot! I love the details and the soft blue color, Niklas!
