This somehow looks scary and depressing to me, so dark... Is this an appartment building?

Maria, yes. This shaft is smaller than the round one in the previous picture. In fact it really was quite dark down at the bottom.
I hope you noted the link to the Google satellite image (in the caption under my picture). The shaft should be visible somewhere in the middle of the satellite image.
