@ Evi: If I understand Niklas correct he means that there is a aura around the sun, another word for halo. From the left to the top and then to the right in the picture. And it looks like a rainbow but isn't one.
But what is the 'sculpture' in front of the sun? Something like a obelisk?

I saw this phenomenon in Bydgoszcz. It's amazing! But one more time I saw "halo" at night around the moon... It was great!

Evi, I hope Theo's explanation is good enough for you. Theo, thank you!

I actually don't know what the "obelisk" is. Maybe there once stood a flagpole, but now only the concrete base remains.

This 22 degree halo is one of the most common halo phenomena. If you would like to know more about the halo phenomenon, see this Wikipedia article. Check out also the halo section of the site called Atmospheric Optics. It's brilliant!!

Check also Sami Köykkä's photo taken in Hämeenlinna in Finland about one week after this one.

Niklas, thanks. The links are fine for better understanding.
@ Evi: It's worth to have a look at the links.

Actually, Niklas, I think your picture has the edge on Sami's. The parhelion may be better in his but yours wins on artistic merit. It reminds me of 2001:A Space Odyssey. (How does Niklas 'Kubrick' Sjoblom sound?!!)

Iain, I'm blushing. :) In fact, I was thinking about the same film, when I placed the sun behind the "monolith".

Quite stunning Niklas, this picture has a deep magical sense to it. The influence of 2001 a space odyssey is very evident. However having lived near Stonehenge for several years it also brings back fond memories of watching the sun rise and set around those beautiful stones.
